Mobile Chargers Gets Standardized
Got to love standards; The GSMA and 17 leading mobile manufacturers and operators (as in all the important ones) has decided to set Micro USB as the standard for mobile chargers. That means no more frustrated digging through old boxes packed with tangled up Sony Ericsson chargers while cursing yourself for switching to Nokia when you only have one, single, red pixel left on the battery icon.
Besides minimizing the need of having duplicate chargers connected at home and at work GSMA expects to potentially eliminate up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers.
The target date is set to January 1st 2012.
