Songbird 1.1 Released

Sweet, there’s a new version (1.1) of the cross-platform and open source music player Songbird available for download and it seems like this version offers quite a number of welcomed additions and fixes. Besides using about 50% less CPU during playback and a (in some cases) 40% smaller memory footprint they’ve squashed a number of crash-causing bugs and the player now sports a number of built-in features like:
- On demand fetching of album artwork (From Last.fm, Amazon or from wherever you want)
- Watch Folders (Choose to watch a folder hierarchy and Songbird will import new files/remove deleted ones from your library)
- Improved sorting
- Better gapless playback
- Better MTP device support
I haven’t used Songbird in quite a while actually – I’ve always found myself crawling back to iTunes when using it in the past, but it really seems like they’re getting somewhere now. Being able to run it under Windows, Linux and Mac OS X doesn’t hurt at all either.
